The mission behind Dr. Besler

Dr. Wendy Besler

My Vision for Integrative Neuropsychiatry

Neurology and Psychiatry have significant overlap in the world of medicine – they are two specialties that are focused on the same organ– the brain.

It can be very difficult to tell where one specialty begins and the other ends, especially since both specialties often have a limited view that consists of only their narrow area of expertise.

Fortunately, this is where Dr. Besler shines- this is her passion.  She has spent decades in patient-care differentiating disease states that overlap into both of these specialties.

Not only does Dr. Besler have an extensive medical background but also has spent years in research, nutritional therapy, and has traveled around the country to learn the most efficacious treatment options in order to treat her patients with cutting edge options– from supplements and pharmaceuticals to IV Infusion and Hyperbaric Oxygen therapy.

My Experience and what made me the doctor I am today

I initially became involved in medicine through an unusual path- that of nutrition and fitness. I received a graduate certification in Nutrition from Touro University after graduating from MSU with a BS in psychology, and established my own preventative medicine clinic. It became apparent that if I was going to make a significant positive impact on a patient’s health, I would require a much more extensive knowledge of medicine.

I decided to become a Physician Assistant and specialized in Neurology, but by that time my love for medicine had become an all- encompassing passion, specifically for the brain. It is, and still remains, the one area in medicine that remains mostly “uncharted.” That led to medical school and completion of a residency in Psychiatry. Over the past two decades I have been fortunate to see and treat a multitude of patients with neurologic and psychiatric issues.

The ability to differentiate what may be a neurologic symptom vs a psychiatric symptom and what may overlap into both specialties has taken many years of experience to develop. My patients have taught me well! I use treatment options that range from pharmaceuticals, to nutritional therapies including vitamins to hormones, all based upon a functional medicine approach.
